John set up ‘Strawsons Energy’ in 2005 and the company division is the largest grower and supplier of Willow Short Rotation Coppice.  The company supplies heat and power to schools, businesses and homes throughout the UK and most of the product offsets coal in power stations. The success demonstrates that willow crops can provide a quality, competitive fuel.

The fuel is traded as: KOOLFUEL^â ENERGY FOR A FUTURE and is truly carbon neutral and locally produced.  The crop is independently trialled to show that it is advantageous for biodiversity as well as its carbon cycle.  At present 5,000 tonnes is produced every year, enough heat and power to supply over 1400 homes and save annually over 1,400 tonnes of CO2.  More info at: www.strawsonsenergy.co.uk

John is also a Nuffield Scholar and has studied ‘Energy Crops for Heat and Power’; the outcome delivers an important message for British agriculture.
